Testing the sennheiser mke 2002 binaural microphones (circa 1973), playing bongos resting on my lap. The microphones are designed to be mounted either on a dummy head or - as i use them here - a user's own ears. Binaural recordings require headphones for full effect.

Set computer volume level at normal. Using headphones or your speakers, play each tone, gradually decreasing the volume until you cannot detect it. Note the volume setting (i know, this isn't easy if you don't have a graduated control, but you can make some arbitrary levels using whatever indicator you have on your os). Repeat with next tone. A test tone that can be used for final mix for tv and other similar media. It contains 10 seconds of silence and then 30 seconds of a 1khz test tone (sine wave) with the digital level set at -6dbfs. Artificial waterfall sound created using audacity. I created two brownian noise tracks and assigned one to the left channel and one to the right for a stereo effect. Using brownian noise means less high frequency noise that is harsh on the ears.
